What is a number percentage increase?
A number percentage increase measures how much a number has grown between two values, expressed as a percentage of the original. It answers the question: by what percentage did this number go up? Use it for price markups, salary raises, tax additions, or any pair where the value rose.
The formula is ((new number − original number) / original number) × 100. The increase is divided by the original number, so the result is always relative to where you started. For 200 growing to 230, the number percentage increase is 15%.
This differs from percentage of a number, which finds a part of a single number (such as 15% of 200 = 30) with no comparison. Use number percentage increase for change between two values, and percentage of a number for a share of one value.
