Hour Calculator
Add hours and minutes together to get a total. Enter two time values and the calculator sums them into a combined total in HH:MM and decimal hours.
Total time
10:45
That is 10.75 decimal hours (645 minutes).
What is an hour calculator?
An hour calculator sums two time values expressed in hours and minutes into a single combined total. It is the tool you reach for when a timesheet lists multiple segments — say 6 hours 30 minutes and 4 hours 15 minutes — and you need one grand total rather than a clock time.
The arithmetic is straightforward in principle but fiddly in practice: convert each value to total minutes, add them, then convert back to HH:MM by dividing by 60 for hours and taking the remainder for minutes. The 60-minute carry is where most manual errors creep in, especially when the minutes column adds to more than 60.
This calculator also reports the decimal-hours total, which is what payroll, billing, and project-tracking systems expect when they multiply hours by a rate. So 6:30 plus 4:15 returns 10:45 and 10.75 decimal hours in one step.
How to add hours and minutes
- 1
Enter the first time
Type the first duration as HH:MM, for example 06:30 for 6 hours and 30 minutes.
- 2
Enter the second time
Type the second duration. The two values are summed the moment you type, with the 60-minute carry handled automatically.
- 3
Read the total
The result shows the combined HH:MM total and the decimal-hours figure for use in payroll and invoicing.
Why use an hour calculator?
No carry errors
Adding 45 and 50 minutes by hand means carrying an hour. The tool handles the 60-minute rollover for you.
Decimal hours
The decimal total like 10.75 drops straight into payroll and billing systems that multiply hours by a rate.
Multi-segment totals
Sum split shifts or project segments into one total without juggling minutes and hours separately.
