What is military time?
Military time is the 24-hour time format that runs from 00:00 (midnight) to 23:59 (one minute before the next midnight). It removes the ambiguity of AM and PM by giving every hour of the day a unique number, which is why the military, aviation, hospitals, and logistics teams rely on it worldwide.
The conversion rule is simple. For hours 1:00 AM through 12:59 PM, military time matches the standard clock except that 12:00 AM becomes 00:00. For hours 1:00 PM through 11:59 PM, you add 12 to the hour — so 2:30 PM becomes 14:30, and 7:00 PM becomes 19:00. This converter applies that rule for you instantly in both directions.
The 24-hour format is also called Zulu time or UTC when used as a global standard. Reading military time aloud often means pairing the digits, so 14:30 is spoken as "fourteen thirty."
