Height Calculator

A height calculator estimates a child's adult height from the heights of both parents. The most common method — and the one used here — is the mid-parental height formula, which averages the parents' heights and adjusts by a fixed amount for the child's sex.

For a boy, the formula adds 6.5 cm (about 2.5 inches) to the average of the parents' heights. For a girl, it subtracts 6.5 cm. The result is the mid-parental target height, which genetics suggests a child is most likely to reach, assuming average nutrition and health.

The mid-parental method also defines a range. Most children land within roughly 10 cm (about 4 inches) of the prediction, so this calculator reports a lower and upper bound alongside the predicted value. That range reflects the natural variability of growth, since height is influenced by many genes plus environmental factors.

Keep in mind this is a statistical estimate, not a guarantee. Actual adult height depends on nutrition, sleep, health during childhood, and hormones. A pediatrician can give a more individualized projection using bone-age X-rays and growth charts, but the mid-parental method remains the simplest reliable starting point.
